PRSSA Leadership

Introduction

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is a national organization dedicated to providing students with networking and career development opportunities in PR. Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving in two roles within our chapter at the University of Oregon: PDT Planning Lead and Finance Director.

These experiences have allowed me to contribute to our chapter’s mission while honing my skills in professional communication, event planning, and strategic financial management.

Finance Director (Spring 2024–Present)

As Finance Director for the University of Oregon’s PRSSA chapter, I oversee the chapter’s financial operations, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support our goals and initiatives. My role is to find meaning in complex financial data, understand how it relates to PRSSA’s mission, and effectively communicate our needs and goals to the Associated Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO)—the university’s student government and primary source of funding.

Key Contributions:

  • 50% Budget Increase: Secured a substantial funding boost for the 2025–2026 fiscal year by crafting and presenting a compelling funding proposal to ASUO.
  • $17,000 in Surplus Funding: Obtained additional funding to fully support the chapter’s NYC trip by delivering a persuasive surplus funding presentation. (View the presentation here)

This role has strengthened my expertise in financial management, strategic communication, and stakeholder advocacy to support PRSSA’s success.

PDT Planning Lead (Winter 2024–Spring 2024)

As PDT Planning Lead for the University of Oregon’s PRSSA chapter, I worked with the Vice President to organize Professional Development Tours (PDTs) that connected members with industry leaders and showcased diverse career paths in public relations.

Key Contributions:

  • Secured Agency Visits: Confirmed tours with Edelman and RH Communications, two prominent PR agencies in Seattle, providing members with valuable exposure to industry practices.
  • Event Logistics Coordination: Managed scheduling, itineraries, and communications to ensure seamless execution of the tours.
  • Professional Outreach: Built relationships with industry professionals through clear and effective communication, fostering connections beneficial to PRSSA and its members.

This role taught me the importance of proactive planning, professional communication, and creating opportunities that bridge the gap between education and industry.
