Kamala, Donald, and the PR Circus of 2024

Welcome to my blog! If you’ve found your way here, chances are you’re just as fascinated by the world of politics and communication as I am. My name is Chloe Jurva, and I’m diving headfirst into one of the most fascinating and turbulent election years in recent history. This blog will focus on political PR, with a special emphasis on dissecting the campaigns of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump during the 2024 election.

So, what’s this blog all about?

In short: political PR. Specifically, I’ll be examining the unique strategies and approaches from both Kamala Harris‘s and Donald Trump’s campaigns. We’re in a pivotal moment—two vastly different figures, one a convicted felon and the other a woman of color, vying for the presidency. It’s a scenario that could only happen in today’s world, where political propaganda spreads not just through posters but virally on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok. I’ll be comparing their strategies to each other and to campaigns from past years, as well as digging into how they reflect the era we’re living in—the age of “truthiness,” where perception often outweighs reality.

Why Political PR?

I’ve always believed that politics touches every aspect of our lives—our day-to-day, our culture, our institutions, and our rights. It’s woven into the fabric of who we are as a society. Initially, I set out to study political science, but I quickly realized that the story a politician tells, and the brand they build, can be just as powerful as the policies they promote. This realization led me to pursue public relations as a career, because even the most qualified candidate for President of the United States can’t win without a strong, strategic campaign. That’s where the magic of PR comes in.

Through this blog, I hope to explore not just the policies of the candidates, but the PR strategies behind them—the messaging, the branding, the storytelling. I want to dissect how these campaigns are shaping public perception, mobilizing supporters, and attempting to sway undecided voters. I’m especially interested in how political propaganda has evolved, spreading more through social media than ever before. The way candidates interact with the public in this space is unlike anything we’ve seen in previous elections.

Why Now?

2024 is a monumental year for politics. We’re witnessing history unfold with two candidates who, on paper, couldn’t be more different. And yet, their campaigns are both brilliant displays of political PR, crafted to appeal to specific demographics and cultural sentiments. What makes this year so remarkable is not just the candidates themselves but the platforms and tools they’re using to communicate. From viral moments to carefully curated speeches, there’s so much to unpack.

As someone who’s passionate about creating culture, altering perspectives, and building brands, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to dive into this wild ride of an election year. So, if you’re curious about how political PR works behind the scenes, or just want to understand more about how candidates shape their public image, stick around! Together, we’ll explore what makes this election—and the PR strategies within it—so unique.

Let’s get started!
